When you’re wounded Let me break it down till I force the issue Missing you Well I never claimed to understandīut my fingers catch sparks at the thought of touching you Now you’re afraid to talk to me It’s like walking with the wounded But there is definitely a much deeper and more interesting subtext prevalent in this song. If this was only a song about sex abuse, it would still be interesting if not thematically rich. This seems like a pretty straight-forward plot-driven explanation for this song, and I almost bought into it that that was all that was here.
The band itself seems to endorse this view. A quick scan of the interpretive postings on the Internet confirmed pretty much a unilateral perspective that this song is about a girl who has been sexually abused and her friend(s) wanting to support her and help her to get over it. Asking what the song was about yielded a predictable answer. I listened to this “Wounded” song by Third Eye Blind on a long drive this weekend, and my analytical senses woke up and became suspicious of the song’s lyrics and direction.
